Background

Each August since 1998, Beloit College has released the Beloit College Mindset List™, providing a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of students entering college each fall.

Overview

This is the first college class of the New Millennium ... initially referred to by the media as iGen or GenZ.

Mostly born in 2000, they are the most tech savvy generation in history.

Same-sex marriage has always been legal somewhere.

"You've got mail" is as foreign to them as "Number, Please" would have sounded to their parents.

Most have never entered a bank.

Films have always been distributed on the Internet.

They have never used a spit bowl in a dentist's office.

"I Love You" has always been a computer virus.

They want to escape the dreaded label of "Millennial" (i.e., just as aging Baby Boomers despise the term "Seniors").
